ROUGH CUTS

CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR THE JUNE ‘08 SERIES

Rough Cuts is a series of work-in-progress documentary screenings that are produced every other month at the LAB, a non-profit gallery/performance space in the Mission. For each evening, we screen one rough cut of a feature-length documentary and then moderate a conversation about the film. These post-screening discussions are designed to give the filmmaker a better, more objective sense of what is working and not working with his/her film, with particular attention paid to improving the film’s structure and narrative clarity.

We hope that the series also provides a welcome space for local filmmakers, film professionals, and fans of documentary film to meet and talk.

The LAB is seeking feature-length works with a final running time of 50 minutes or longer. Principal photography should have been completed, and we encourage filmmakers to submit cuts that are in the later stages of post-production (i.e. NOT first or second cuts).

Wednesday May 21 - Submissions must arrive at the Lab by 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday, May 28 - Selections will be announced

Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. – Screenings, followed by discussions led by guest moderators

For more information, including how to submit
and the selection criteria, visit:

I am a Bay Area composer with the means to produce professional quality recordings for diverse styles of projects and various media formats. The training I received from the Berklee College of Music, where I majored in Film Scoring, has prepared me to write in a variety of musical styles to sync with disparate multimedia projects.

My services include music for film and video productions, video games, corporate promos, radio spots, websites, television shows, commercials, presentations and more. Whether you are a filmmaker or a local business owner, promoting your services is critical and I believe I can assist you in that respect with aesthetically appealing music, in whatever genre, to correspond with and enhance your project. I will be happy to provide you with my musical resume and samples of some of my music upon request. Budget should not be an issue - just call or write for a consultation.

Shoot/Edit Internship at SFGTV
4 Internships available for Summer 2008
Approximately 16 hours/week, Non-paid internship

Interns have been shooting and editing "Main Stage" for the past one year.
Views clips here: http://www.youtube.com/sfplmainstage

It's been a very hands-on experience for most people: using the PowerHAD cameras, learning to set up the Anycast and editing on Avid. On the days when "Main Stage" isn't happening, we've taken interns to press conferences, field interviews and other multi-cam shoots. So far, the student happiness has been fairly high and the disfiguring injuries have been fairly low.

The Boilerplate Description:
The City’s government television channel, SFGTV, is operated by the City and County of San Francisco. Programming on the channel consists of in-house produced programs that educate and inform the public on government-related activities as wells as gavel-to-gavel coverage of numerous governmental meetings.
Candidates will be required to work a 10-20 hour week, as determined by mutual agreement of the student and SFGTV.
Under the supervision of the General Manager and the Production Supervisor, the Intern will assist with and carry out production and other related duties.

During the semester, the intern will learn about: pre-production planning, equipment set-up, proper video and audio levels, camera operation techniques, principles of lighting, Photoshop and non-linear editing.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
• Monitor video and audio signal strengths and quality throughout recording, and make necessary adjustments.
• Edit video in a non-linear (AVID) suite
SECONDARY JOB DUTIES:
• Set up and operate fixed robotic video cameras, transport and setup studio and portable broadcast quality television cameras, VTR’s, switchers, lights, microphones and audio mixers for videotaping gavel-to-gavel coverage of public meetings and other television productions.
• Operate computer graphics systems to add titles, credits, and lower-thirds to tapes and live programming.

It is our goal that, at the end of the semester, the intern will be self-sufficient as a producer with the technical knowledge and creative skills required to produce a video program.

Jobs Offered: Unpaid :: Seek Composer: Comedic Short re Lusty Sheeplady--at Castro

I'm seeking a composer for a ten-minute comedic short about a woman who has a dream that she is a sheep in love with her ranch hand (yes, you read that right). It is sexy, over-the-top, very funny, beautifully shot (HD), and we need a great score!

This film will be having its premiere at the Castro on June 28 as part of the Frameline festival--from there, on to the rest of the world! I'm an aggressive marketer, and this film is going to have a big, long life...

Soundtrack will consist of some orchestral type pieces, and some acoustic guitar (although I have a guitarist who can compose those parts if necessary).

I have a pretty clear idea of what the film needs (ie you won't be thrown to the wolves) but also am very receptive to input (your creativity can totally fly).

This film being a labor of love, I can't afford to pay, sadly, on this one. That being said, I'm great to work with and would be happy to do any sort of trade we could work out.

See our temp website at sheeplovestory.webs.com/index.htm, for a wee bit more info. Or better yet, write me at lhhintz { at } yahoo { dot } com . Thanks and baaaa!
