Film Arts Alert
April 28, 2008
Dear Friend of Film,
The Board and Staff of Film Arts Foundation are very grateful to you all for your contributions, and most particularly for your faith and patience. We hope that you will continue this support.
As we told you in our letter of March 24th, we plan to give you an update periodically during this, our transitional period. We are still in negotiations and hope to be able to give you more concrete information by the time of our next update.
At the moment the building is open Monday through Friday from 2-5pm. We have a phone system in place whereby if you call on the main number - 415-552-8760 - you will be guided to the department of your choice. If you leave a message, we assure you of a response within 24 hours.
Fiscal Sponsorship is in full operation, picking up new projects under the able guidance of Lynnette Gryseels and Linda Tracey. Remember the April 30 deadline for applications. For application guidelines and instructions, please see www.filmarts.org/funding. As always, funds received for fiscally sponsored projects are handled separately from our operational funds. Once a donation is received for a sponsored project, we deposit the funds in a separate account and release the funds once the donation check has cleared. Fiscal Sponsorship inquiries: 415 552 8760 ext. 8, sponsoredprojects@filmarts.org.
TILT - Film Arts' youth media literacy program - continues in full operation. Youth media programmer Skye Christensen is planning this year's Summer Film Camp for students aged 14-19, slated for August 4-21, 2008. TILT inquiries: 415-552-8760 ext. 6, tilt@filmarts.org.
Membership will be supervised by Michael Behrens as the educational programs wind down for the summer. The Equipment Rental Facility has gone on hiatus until further notice.
The magazine, Film Arts, will not have a summer issue but will be relaunched in another format, hopefully by early Fall.
If all of the plans come to fruition we look forward to having newly designed services and programs available in the fall under another host organization. The Executive Committee has been working daily to fill in the gaps and keep the transition moving along.
Film Arts Foundation has not closed its doors. The success of our negotiations will ensure that the hundreds of independent filmmakers across the country that rely on the resources Film Arts provides will continue to be nurtured as before. This is the legacy of Film Arts Foundation and it will be carried forward.
Film Arts Foundation's debts must be reduced in order for us to enable the proposed transition. The organization is continuing the emergency campaign to raise $150,000 between now and May 31, 2008.
To pledge your support for Film Arts, please make a gift of $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or any amount that you choose. Click here to make a secure, tax-deductible gift today.
Please spread the word to others you know who may also want to get involved.
Sincerely,
Steve Ramirez, Chairman
Diana Fuller, Vice-Chairman
