San Francisco, CA The Board of the Film Arts Foundation takes great pleasure in announcing their agreement with the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive and The Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley, to house FAF's important archives. This historic collection comprises over 3,091 media files including 2,000 video copies of films documenting the work of filmmakers either sponsored by or donated to the Film Arts Foundation over their 32 years of activity in the Bay Area. Additionally, books, periodicals, photos, posters, festival records, programs, articles, and historical records will be available for study purposes. (Read the full press release.)
If you may have work that is in the Film Arts Collection:
Congratulations! You may want to consider adding this information to your biography. The official name of the media archive is, "The Film Arts Foundation Collection of the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive."
If you want to withdraw your work:
PFA has a strong interest in receiving as complete a collection as possible to best reflect FAF's supported projects. However, if you do not want your work to be a part of the Collection, FAF must receive your withdrawal request immediately. Sorry, but no withdrawal requests can be processed after February 1, 2009. You must submit your withdrawl request via e-mail by contacting info@filmarts.org. Due to FAF's financial circumstances, there may be a small charge for processing your request.
PFA encourages film and videomakers to allow their tapes to remain in the FAF donation in order to complete and enhance the historical value of the collection.
If you want to donate additional materials:
Almost all of the video materials that FAF has are in the form of VHS tapes. Obviously, this format will have a limited lifespan. If you have a title that is already in the collection (we cannot accept new films), please e-mail us immediately if you would like to donate the title on film or another video format. PFA is not able to accept direct gifts from individual filmmakers and FAF would have to deliver any additional materials to the PFA at one time. Please e-mail us at info@filmarts.org for more information.
